The tree that this log came from, was 260 feet high, and 14 feet across at the base. It was 980 years old. Coming from a Redwood Tree Farm, it was cut in a thinning out program. In this method, selective cutting and replanting is practiced, so as to protect and perpetuate the future of the Redwood Forests. The part of the tree used for the House, was 100 feet up from the ground. It is 33 feet long, and 8 feet wide. The walls are from 5 to 10 inches thick. It weighs about 12 ton. It took two men working full time one year to complete. Although fully self contained, and completely livable, it is often used as an exhibit to show how large the Redwood Tree grows, and let you see in reality, what they are like. It is hoped that you enjoy a pleasant and interesting visit through the Giant Redwood Tree House. Owned, built and operated by Maxwell Kitson.
