980 Years old Red Wood Log RV

THE REDWOOD TREEHOUSE

This is a log from a Giant Redwood Tree, It was hollowed out from solid to make a beautiful home. There is a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom inside. All of the furniture is built in, and made from unusual burls, and rare curly grained redwood.

The Redwood Trees, growing only along the Northern coast of California, are the tallest and possibly fastest growing trees in the world. They are very durable, and are seldom destroyed by fire or disease. Even when cut down, the stump usually sprouts and a new tree continues to grow.

The tree that this log came from, was 260 feet high, and 14 feet across at the base. It was 980 years old. Coming from a Redwood Tree Farm, it was cut in a thinning out program. In this method, selective cutting and replanting is practiced, so as to protect and perpetuate the future of the Redwood Forests.

The part of the tree used for the House, was 100 feet up from the ground. It is 33 feet long, and 8 feet wide. The walls are from 5 to 10 inches thick. It weighs about 12 ton. It took two men working full time one year to complete. Although fully self contained, and completely livable, it is often used as an exhibit to show how large the Redwood Tree grows, and let you see in reality, what they are like.

The tree from which this log came was an astounding 260 feet tall and 14 feet wide at its base. It was 980 years old, meaning it began growing around the year 960 AD—long before the founding of modern nations. To put its age into perspective:

  • By the time Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas in 1492, this tree was already over 500 years old.
  • When the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, the tree had been growing for more than 800 years.
  • When Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860, the tree was nearing its 900th year.
  • It continued to grow through major milestones in U.S. history, from the Industrial Revolution to the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937.

The portion of the tree used for this house was cut as part of a sustainable thinning program on a Redwood Tree Farm, ensuring the forests’ long-term health. The log used for the house was located 100 feet above the ground, measuring 33 feet in length and 8 feet in width. The walls are between 5 to 10 inches thick, and the log weighs an impressive 12 tons. It took two men working full-time an entire year to hollow and transform the log into this extraordinary, fully self-contained home.

While livable, the Redwood Treehouse is often displayed as an exhibit, allowing visitors to experience firsthand the grandeur of these remarkable trees. It’s an awe-inspiring reminder of nature’s power, history, and resilience.
